Peter Joseph Joeris was born on 15 DEC 1877 in Heinsberg, Heinsberger Landkreis, Nortrhein-Westfalen, Germany, son of Stephan Joseph Joeris and Maria Catharina Schiffers. The family emigrated to the United States ca 1893 and settled in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, where both of his parents died. He married Augusta Doebbler on 06 SEP 1906 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. He and Augusta had one daughter who was born in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. The family then moved to Abilene, Taylor County, Texas, where Peter became a partner with his older brother, Joseph A. Joeris, operating a blacksmith shop on 140 Sycamore St., Abilene, Taylor County, Texas. The brothers were master blacksmiths, and operated the Joeris Brothers Blacksmith Shop for more than 50 years. The shop was closed in the summer of 1956. At the time of the closing, the "Smithy's" said that the last horse brought to them to be shod was in 1916. The older brother, Joseph, died in May 1960. The Joeris brothers were so similar in appearance-they looked like twins. Peter Joseph Joeris died Sept. 9, 1860, at his residence at 5:34 Sycamore St.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving him at the time of his death was his wife, Augusta Joeris, nee Doebbler; his daughter, Adelheide (Mrs. Harry) Seibt of Abilene, Taylor County, Texas; four sons, George Peter Joeris of Texarkana, Texas; Hugo Joseph of Amarillo, Texas; Louis Joeris of Houston, Texas, and Leonard, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Marguerite "Margaret" Dubbs of Slaton, Texas; and 12 grandchildren.

He was buried in Abilene Municipal Cemetery, Abilene, Taylor County, Texas.
