Mrs. Emma Cleo Smith, School Teacher, Dies

Mrs. Emma Cleo Smith, 53-year-old school teacher and wife of Ernest Smith, died at 12:20 a.m. today in a local hospital.

Rites will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Doran Chapel with the Rev. John H. Cash of Comstock officiating. Burial will be made in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of the Doran Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith taught fourth grade in Garfield Elementary School of the Del Rio Independent School District for the past several years. She had resided in Del Rio for 11 years and made her home at 206 Sunset St.

She was born May 30, 1917, in Vance, Tex.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest Smith of Del Rio; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Longbotham Jr. of Monahans; two sisters, Mrs. Jesse Lockhart of Barksdale and Mrs. Jack Sawyer of Kingsville, Tex.; a brother, Ira C. Smith, of Camp Wood.

Mrs. Smith had taught school 26 years. She taught for 10 years at Garfield Elementary School in the Del Rio Independent School District in fourth grade; last year and most of the present scholastic year she taught in Memorial Elementary School, with almost 12 years of teaching in the Del Rio district.
