Virginia Katherine Hamilton, 88, of Franklin, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin.

She was born Jan. 17, 1920, in Bargersville to Ray and Maple (Cook) Utterback. She married Lawrence Hugh Hamilton. He preceded her in death in 1994.

She was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of Union Village Order of the Eastern Star No. 584, Daughters of the American Revolution and Johnson County Home Economics Club, where she served as president. She also was active in the Johnson County 4-H fair.

She had been a sales representative for Avon and had been employed by Roeders Printing in Franklin, Danner's store in Greenwood and various other retail establishments.

She was a graduate of Center Grove High School.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Joy (Bob) Jones of West Chester, Ohio; a son, Jerry Hamilton of Hope; four grandchildren, Jan E. Hamilton of Hope, Jack D. Hamilton of Whiteland, Tammie M. Jones of West Chester and Holli R. Jones of Washington; five great-grandchildren, James Cox of Lafayette, JoAnna Hamilton of Hope, Lauren Hamilton, Abigail Hamilton and Austin Hamilton, all of Whiteland; a brother-in-law, John (Barbara) Afflerbach of Greenwood; a nephew, Kerry Afflerbach of Indianapolis; and a niece, Barbara Brockman of Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hamilton; and a sister, Patricia Afflerbach.

The Rev. David Lee will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 677 W. State Road 144, Franklin. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin, where the Union Village Order of the Eastern Star No. 584 will conduct a service at 6 p.m. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery.
