James Harvey Phillips, of Johnson township, died Tuesday morning at the St. Joseph hospital in Louisville as the result of an operation for gall stones. Aged 65 years. His remains will be interred at the Wesley Chapel cemetery in Jennings township this morning. He was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges at Crothesville and a member of the G. A. R. post at this place. He served in the civil war as a Corporal in Co. K, 120th Indiana Infantry.
There were few men in Scott county better known than "Harve" Phillips. He served as trustee in Johnson township and was once the Republican candidate for county treasure. As a citizen and neighbor he was held in high esteem. He was ever ready to answer the call for assistance, and his neighbor's all knew that to ask was to receive. He will be missed and mourned by his family and many friends.
