Mary Jane Brown of Scottish descent was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania to parents George Brown(1750-1840) and Mary Glass(1756-1810. Mary Jane was the fourth of six children: Ann, William, James, John Glass and Margaret Brown.

Mary Jane married James Harbison(1770-1843) in 1797 in Butler County, Pa. They had ten children together; Matthew, Mary, George, James, John, William, Robert, Samuel, Margaret Brown and Archibald Thompson. All their children were born in Butler County, Pa.

Mary Jane died at the age of 88 years and is laid to rest along side her husband of 46 years James and their son William (1808-1835). All are buried in Middlesex Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Middlesex Township, Butler County, Pa.
