Obituary: A. S. RAINEY, ELLAVILLE.
ELLAVILLE, Sept. 16 - A. S. Rainey, one of Ellaville's most prominent citizens, died at his home here Thursday (15 Sep 1921) afternoon at 6:30 o'clock. For more than two weeks Mr. Rainey had been suffering from a severe attack of fever and while for several days his condition has been considered serious, his friends held out the hope that he would survive. All that could be was done for him by the doctors of Ellaville and the neighboring towns but to no avail. He could not stand the ravages of the fever and succumbed.
Mr. Rainey was about 38 years of age and was born and reared in Schley county, having moved to Ellaville eight years ago. No more useful citizen ever lived in Ellaville than Mr. Rainey and in his death the county and town loses a citizen of true worth.
He was active in everything that pertained to the good of the town. For many years he had been tax receiver of the county and has held other offices of trust. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Ellaville High school, a teacher of the Bible class in the Baptist Sunday school and secretary of the Schley County Sunday School Asociation [sic]. The whole town and county is in morning [sic] over the seeming untimely death of so useful a citizen.
Mr. Rainey is survived by his wife and three children, Daniel, Louise and Carmen; his mother, Mrs. M. S. Rainey, and two sisters Mrs. E. S. Wall, of Ellaville and Mrs. J. C. Hale of Bainbridge, besides a large …. (cut off)
