Elmo Toxie Wheat, 74, of 2033 Vanderbilt St., died Monday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Lincoln Church of Christ with the Rev. J.B. Whitaker officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wheat was a native of Mississippi, but lived in Huntsville for the past 56 years. He was a veteran of World War II and had worked for G.W. Jones Co. since 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Wheat, one son, Elmo B. Wheat of Huntsville; one brother, Edmond C. Wheat of Huntsville; one sister, Matty Frierson of Picayune, Miss.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The body may be viewed at the church 30 minutes prior to the time of the service.
