Abner enlisted in the Union Army 36th Iowa Infantry on Feb. 16, 1864. He was captured at the engagement at Mark's Mills, Arkansas on April 25, 1864 and incarcerated at the POW Camp Ford at Tyler, Texas, where he died of starvation on 10/12/1864, His brother, Horace Munson Lyman was mortally wounded in the same engagement. Abner was first buried near the camp and later moved to this cemetery.
