The Thursday February 7, 1924 edition of The Robesonian newspaper included:

Deaths: Mr. Richard Prevatt One of Lower Robeson's Most Highly Respected Citizens-Funeral This Morning - Mr. Richard Prevatt, one of lower Robeson's most highly respected citizens, died yesterday morning at 6:15 at his home near Center church in Fairmont township. He was in his 80th year and had been sick for some time, but not seriously until a few days ago. Heart trouble brought the end. He was a member of the Center Baptist church and a faithful worker. He was a successful farmer and "Uncle Dick" as he was generally known, had a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the home this morning at 10:30 and interment was made in the family burying ground. Surviving is a large number of children and grand-children. Messrs. Will and Wright Prevatt and Mrs Lizzie Stubbs of Lumberton are among the children surviving. A large number of people from here attended the services.

Fairmont Letter: Death of Mr. Richard Prevatt – Wednesday morning at 6:15 Mr. Richard Prevatt, who lived about 4 miles north of town on the Fairmont-Lumberton road, passed to his reward…To his marriage with Miss Charity Prevatt 7 children were born of whom 5 are living: Mrs. J. A. Small who lives near the home place, Mrs. Bob Collins, near Lumberton, Mrs. John Stubbs, Lumberton; Messrs. Billie and Wright Prevatt of Lumberton. To his marriage with Miss Fannie Pittman, 3 were born, of whom all are living: Thelma, Quentaline and Willis. A large concourse of friends and relatives gathered at the grave to pay their last respect to a life that had been so long and useful. The floral designs were many and beautiful.
