Walter was born in 1895 on a farm in the Grand Rapids area. He later met and fell in love with his wife Carrie Lucille Hankinson and was married in 1919. Walter and 'Peg' (Lucille's nickname), moved to the Detroit area to build a cement business with his partner.
They settled down in the Dearborn area and started their family. Two sons were born, Ervin and Bill who stayed in the area until they started their own families.
Walter was a hardworking man who was quiet and reserved. He adored his wife and eventually built a new home in Dearborn where he retired. He loved to work in his yard and garden and grew apple trees on his property. His yard was pristine and was a marvel to those that visited. He liked to travel and he and Peg did so with family and friends.
My favorite memories of Grandpa: picking apples, catching baby bunnies, his gentle kindness, riding in the green Lincoln, napping in 'his' chair and the bird knocker.
