In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Vernon L. Redcay; a daughter, Patsy J. Carvell; a grandson, Jeremy L., husband of Jennifer (Sweigart) Carvell and two great-grandchildren: Justin M. and Jordan M. Carvell all of Ephrata.
Also surviving are two sisters: Mabel W. Newman of Denver, PA and Lillian W., wife of Elam Martin of Ephrata and a brother, Isaac W. Redcay of Nine Points, PA.
Rufus was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Ephrata, where he was a Deacon and Elder and taught Sunday School. He was employed as an Automotive Machinist for many years at Car Quest in Ephrata. He also was a Phillies fan and enjoyed sports, especially watching Bethany Church League Softball.
A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Rufus served in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Cloister Post 3376 VFW in Ephrata.
Friends will be received at Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata from 6-8 p.m. on Mon., Dec. 8th and at Bethany U.C.C, 140 E. Main St., Ephrata, PA 17522 from 10-11 a.m. on Tues., Dec. 9th. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Mark J. Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens, East Cocalico Twp., PA with Military Honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. (Lancaster Newspapers, 12/7/2008)
