PORTSMOUTH -- Thomas Michael Nolan Sr., 56, of the 600 block of Hickory Creek Road, Faber, Va., died Oct. 19, 1999, in his home.
Mr. Noland, a native of Portsmouth, retired from the Portsmouth Police Department with 25 years of service. He was a member of Portsmouth Police and Firefighters Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Gosport Lodge 20, a graduate of Cradock High School and a former member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen F. Nolan; three children, Thomas Michael Nolan Jr. of Chesapeake, Paul J. Nolan of Faber, Va., and Amy N. Compton of Portsmouth; two stepdaughters, Yvonne Taylor of Portsmouth and Wendy Quick of Faber; a brother, John J. Nolan of Quincy, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and special adopted parents, Jack and Kay Mitchell.
A funeral with police honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, by Police Chaplain Thomas Potter. Burial will follow in Portsmouth Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
