Graveside services for Ruth Ford Slack, 84, of Big Horn will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Nelson officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Ford died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Edison, Neb., to Lula Augusta (Wheeler) and the Rev. William Henry Harrison Lee. She was a graduate of Polk (Neb.) High School, attended college in MePherson, Kan., and received nurse's training in Sheridan. She married E. "Gene" Ford on April 1, 1943, in Alliance, Neb. He preceded her in death. She married Victor Slack on Feb. 16, 2005, in Sheridan. They lived on the Box Cross Ranch in Big Horn. She worked as a nurse in Gillette and at Sheridan VA Medical Center. She was a member for more than 50 years of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a lifetime member of Sheridan County Hospital Auxiliary, a charter member of the Does, and a member of Sheridan Elks Club 520. She also belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion auxiliaries, Snowmads, and the Wagon Box Good Sams Club. She enjoyed gardening, the mountains, dancing, fishing, snow-machining, travel, playing cards, and being with family and friends. She made clothes for herself and her family. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Lee Ford, who was killed in Vietnam, and by two brothers and six sisters. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rodney Ford of Pittsburgh and William Ford of Sheridan; a daughter, Rayma Ford Costigan of Denver; a sister, Joann Stepp of Tahlequah, Okla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Elks Cemetery Fund in care of John Mitchell, Elks Club 520, 45 W. Brundage St., Sheridan, WY 82801.
