John Prim Hertel, or Prim, was born on June 13, 1890 in Buffalo, Sangamon, IL to Joseph and Anna Stauffer Hertel. He first married Ida E. Payne and they had one child, Prim Jr. Ida died in 1935 and he then remarried Mary Shomidie in 1936 in Petersburg, IL. They didn't have any children, but they raised foster children. Prim died on January 27, 1986 in Springfield at the age of 95. He was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery on January 30, 1986.
