Dorothy Bossert, 79, Karlsruhe, ND, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva.

Dorothy Margaret Burckhard was born on December 9, 1925, on the family farm located in Norwich Township of McHenry County, rural Norwich, North Dakota the daughter of Wendelin and Clementine (Boechler) Burckhard. She was raised on the farm and graduated Salutatorian from Norwich High School. She was an exceptional athlete, who played on the Norwich High School girls' basketball team, which took 2nd place in the state in 1941.

Dorothy married Edward Bossert on June 20, 1944, in Minot. They settled on the farm near Karlsruhe. They were very active members in the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Choir for many years until Parkinson's kept her from climbing the stairs to the choir loft. Dorothy was a very talented artist, both in oils and watercolors. She has given a number of her works to her children.

Her talents were many. They included gardening, wine making, preserving, and sewing. Many a time her children would come home from school to the smell of fresh baked bread rolls. She loved to quilt, which she did for a number of years. When the neighbors came to visit; they would play pinochle and whist. She would occasionally clean the table in a game of poker. Her grandchildren gave her such joy to be around and watch grow.

Her husband, Edward, of 60 years, preceded her in death on August 1, 2004. It was very devastating for her as he was not only her soul mate, but also her caregiver. A month after his death, she entered the wonderful Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.
