OBIT: Vancouver Independant - April 6, 1905

Pioneer Expires. After an illness of less than half an hour, Mrs. Mary Ann Burgy, one of the oldest of the pioneer residents of this county, died Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Morrow, her daughter. During the early portion of the evening Mrs. Burgy was about the house as usual and although she had been slightly ailing for some time, showed no indication of approaching changes. At the usual hour she retired and shortly after 10 o'clock Mrs. Morrow went to her mother's room and noticed that she was quite ill. In spite of all efferts at relief, within half an hour her death followed.
Mrs. Burgy was 79 years of age and a native of the Province of Lorraine France where she was reared. She came to this section in 1852 and was one of the first white women to settle in the county, where she has resided ever since. She has reared a family of ten children all of whom reside in this section. These are as follows: Gus, Joseph, John, Louis, and Henry Burgy; Mrs. Carrie Wood, Mrs. A. Harris, Mrs. Emma Hodgkiss, Mrs. D. Hubbard and Mrs. M. Morrow.
