Mrs. Evelyn Liza Jamison Aiken, 86, a retired businesswoman, of 212 Sears St., St. George, died Monday, March 1, 2004, at St. George Health Care Center after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Bethel AME Church, St. George with the Rev. J.C. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke United Methodist Church Cemetery, Grover.

Mrs. Aiken was born Feb. 14, 1918, in St. George, a daughter of the late Henry and Essie Jamison. She was the widow of Gibbs Aiken. She was a life-long and dedicated member of Bethel AME Church, where she served faithfully for many years on the Pastor Aid's Board and the church missionary. Mrs. Aiken was a very successful businesswoman who operated a restaurant in St. George for many years prior to her retirement. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Hodges.

Survivors include a sister, Desma Thomas of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two children she reared in the home, Daisy C. Brown and Vernon DeLee, both of St. George; a granddaughter, Latandra Hodges of St. George; a grandson, Richard (Sharon) Hodges of St. George; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
