MRS. BATSON
LANETT -- Mrs. Alice Batson, 85, of Lanett died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005 at LaFayette Extended Care in LaFayette.
Funeral services were scheduled Sunday, Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Dr. Jerome King officiating. Burial followed at Langdale Cemetery.
Mrs. Batson is survived by one daughter, Ellen (Lee) Rice of Lanett; one brother, Alfred E. "Bud" Smith of Port Angeles, Wash.; four grandchildren, Nicole Price, David Holley, Amanda Tedescucci and B.J. Rice; and five great-grandchildren.
Born April 1, 1919 in Langdale, Mrs. Batson was the daughter of the late Thelma Mae Waller Smith and John Coleman Smith. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the Valley area. Mrs. Batson had been in declining health for the past several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Valley.
The family respectfully declines the honor of flowers and asks that memorials be made to Carpenters for Christ, c/o Weymon Moore, 3529 15th Ave., Valley, 36854, in her memory.
The family received friends Saturday, Jan. 22 from 5:30 until 7 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
