Margaret Ellen Fox was the youngest of 2 daughters born to Kent Richard Fox and Marion Louise (Gilbert) Fox. Her older sister was Pauline Gilbert Fox whom never married or had children.
Margaret demonstraited a briliant mind, even as a child. She was moved up 2 grade levels while in school because her teachers recognised her advanced learning.
Margaret attended Washington University in St. Louis, M.O. and graduated at the age of 19 about the 1933. She then worked for The American Red Cross in the field of Social work.
She met Wesley M. Reed of Coucil Bluffs, Iowa and they began a courtship. He was a tenor solist and would sing to her. Perticularly a song called, "Peg of my heart". Peg was her nick name.
Wesley and Margaret were married on May 31,1940 in St. Louis, M.O. Shortly after Wesley went into active military duty and they were seperated during most of World War 2.
One daughter was born to their union, Gail Fox Reed in 1946. Unfortunitly, shortly after, their marriage was desolved and Margaret never remarried.
Margaret continued working for the Red Cross in St. Louis, lived with her parents and sister Polly, and every one helped raise her daughter Gail.
When her father Kent died in 1957 Margaret now head of the house, moved her family to Leawood, K.S. where she accepted a supervisory possition in Kansas City, M.O. with The Red Cross.
On May 20,1957 a tornado ripped threw Ruskin Hights just south of Kansas City. Margaret was involved with extending relief for many thousands of victims whom had lost their homes, etc. Coinsidently, her future son inlaw, Daniel Bowling was involved in this tornato. He was at a boy scout meeting at Burke elementary school, which recieved consderable damage. However their paths would not cross untill about 7 years later.
Margaret turned in her resignation to the Red Cross after several disagrements in the way the funds were being distributed in conection with the May 20th tornado.
She then supported her self and family with the stock in Mansanto that her father left the family.
Her mother Marion passed away in 1961 leaving only her sister and daughter.
For a number of years, unawares to her sister and daughter, Margaret had been fighting a battle for her life. She had a brain tumor.
Her daughter Gail married Daniel Bowling in 1963 and Margaret passed away on Easter eve 1968 in her home, with her daughter and sister at her side.
Some time prior to her death Margaret made arrangments to have her eyes donated to an eye bank and her body donated to The University of Kansas Medical Center for cancer research. later her remains were cremated.
