John is the son of Peterson Kimbrell Parr and Lucy McQueary Parr. He lived a brief life and was stricken down with typhoid pneumonia while a student at Franklin College. The following is his obituary from the Franklin Democrat, October 31, 1879TRIBUTE OF RESPECTPhi Delta Theta Hall, October 27, 1879Whereas, in the mysterious dispensation of His providence, God has deemed it best to remove from us by death our beloved brother, John T. Parr, therefore be it Resolved, By the Indiana Delta that we recognize in him a brother of sterling worth, of superior mental power and capabilities, and of unexcelled social qualities.Resolved, That as a student he was second to none; as a friend equal to any; as a brother first of all.Revolved That we feel in his death the Chapter has met with an irreparable loss, each individual a personal friend and brother, and the common brother-hood a valuable member.Resolved, That the Faculty of Franklin College has lost an honored pupil, and the students an endeared classmate.Resolved, That we will hold his memory as a sweet aroma; that his life shall be to us an example of honored manliness, of high souled congeniality, of moderation in all dealings, with others, of strictest moral rectitude.Resolved, That the Chapter extends its warmest and tenderest sympathy to the bereaved family of our deceased brother, and especially to his companion in school----a loved sister.Resolved, futher, That these resolutions be recorded in our minutes; that they be published in our city papers, ande a copy be sent to the family of the deceased.
