Edward came to America on the ship Stradacona leaving from the port of Derry on 25 May 1869 and arriving in Philadelphia, PA. Edward would stay in Philadelphia for a number of years. His younger brother Anthony Bernard Sweeney would come to America in 1874 and also stay in Philadelphia for a while..Later they would both move on to Missouri...Edward would become a Mercantile Store Owner...Owned two different stores. He would marry Margaret Kiley, on 23 Nov 1887, in Pierce City, Lawrence Co, MO...They would have six children...Ed would become a citizen of America at Cassville, Barry Co, MO. on 12 Oct 1892. Both Edward and Margaret are buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Some of their children are also here.
Anthony Bernard Sweeney, Edward's brother,is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Texarkana, Bowie Co, Texas. The Sweeney's of Texarkana lived on the Arkansas side of Texarkana as there was no Catholic Cemetery on that side of town when they died. Some family members will be found in Calvary Cemetery, Arkansas side of town.
