Business manager and one of the owners of the Illinois State Journal. Son of Phares and Caroline Dorwin. He was first employed in the print shop of the Masonic Trowel. He later worked for the State National Bank as teller until he retired to take position as private secretary to Gov. Shelby M. Cullom. After Cullom became a Senator, Mr. Dorwin took the position of chief deputy with U.S. Marshal John R. Tanner. While in this position, he organized the company which purchased the plant of the Illinois State Journal. He and Lewis Miner and Clarence Paul took over the property in April 1889.

Mr. Dorwin married Miss Bertha Buck, eldest daughter of Dr. Horatio Buck, a prominent Springfield physician, on March 31, 1897. She survived him, together with brothers Shelby Cullom Dorwin and Charles G. Dorwin. He was of a retiring disposition and devoted his entire life to his family and his business.
