Joel Cody Barker enlisted in the Hawkins-Taylor Home Guard, and was involved in Price's Raid, fall of 1864. This would be Gen. Sterling Price, a former governor of Missouri. Joel Cody Barker guarded the Frisco Railroad at Washington, Missouri, during Price's Raid.

Thought you would want dates for Joel. From his death certificate he died 10 July 1919 Poplar Bluff, Butler County Missouri. He was born 18 January 1832 in New York.
His mother's maiden name was Dyer.
His death was rather unusual. A log fell from a moving train and crushed his chest.
