Adeline Melissa Bellinger Tucker Leist died March 31, 1908 and according to a newspaper article in the Vicksburg Evening Post this is what happened:
Mr. Sam Leist returning from Vicksburg on the steamer Addie T, went to his house and couldn't find his wife, Adeline. Adeline had evidently heard the boat horn blow and put on her shoes, wrapped a quilt around her and went to the steep edge of the river to meet the boat. The quilt was found in the river above the house and the same day her body was found in a drift about 4 miles below the house still clad in her night clothes and shoes. One of her sons passed through her bedroom about 9:00 p.m. the night before and she was in her bed awake. He was the last to see her alive.
