Delia Bernice TenEyck Moore, 96, of Auburn, Kansas passed away November 29, 2008 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born November 9, 1912 at Marseilles, Illinois to George Edward and Estella Bernice Gallaher TenEyck.

The family moved to their farm near Corning, Kansas in 1922. Bernice was the last surviving member of the Corning High School class of 1931. She attended Park College, Parkville, Missouri and graduated from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas in 1935. She also attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois and received her Masters degree from Washburn University in 1964.

Bernice was a teacher and cook at the YMCA camp in Estes Park, Colorado in 1936 where she perfected baking her wonderful rolls. She taught English and Music at several Kansas high schools: Hoyt, Walton, and Syracuse. At Hoyt she met Hugh Moore, a fellow teacher. They were married in her parents' home in Walton, Kansas October 26, 1941, honeymooned in Pauline, Kansas, and moved to the farm at Auburn. Besides farming she taught at Auburn Grade School, Auburn High School, and Jay Shideler Junior High School. She retired in 1977.

Bernice was a member of the Auburn Presbyterian Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School, directing the choir, and being active in the Missionary Society. She was active in the Grange and was a Girl Scout leader. Bernice received the first Everywoman's Resource Center Unsung Heroine award. She completed the Menninger Bible Class and was an Extension Master Gardner. She enjoyed making quilts, as her dad had. She spent many hours at the Steinway baby grand piano she bought in the 1930's. Workers constructing the Kansas Turnpike rescued her piano from her burning house in 1955.

Bernice was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Moore, November 28, 1986 and her brother George Robert TenEyck. Bernice requested a memorial service. It will be held December 22, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Auburn Presbyterian Church. The service will be followed by a gathering in the Auburn Community Center, which was formerly the Auburn High School were she taught English and music. Inurnment will be at Simerwell Cemetery near her farm. Her memorial, the Bernice Moore Memorial, will be distributed among her many favorite charities, and may be sent in care of Carey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame, KS 66413. Bernice was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and she enjoyed life fully.
