"Roy Beakler 1930-2003

Roy Beakler of Willcox was born in New Virginia, Iowa on July 26, 1930 and passed away at home on Oct. 28, 2003 at the age of 73.

In the late '50s, he moved to Sheridan, Wyo. and worked in construction, then became an auto mechanic. In 1958, Roy married Margaret Watt. In 1966, they moved to Globe, where he continued in auto repairing, eventually starting his own business. Roy retired in 1993 moving to Willcox in 1995 where he restored a blue 1926 Dodge pickup, which he drove in the Rex Allen Days Parade for several years. Roy attended the Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Margaret of Willcox; daughters, Roilene (Mike) Measeles of Globe, and Holly (Kevin) Hodges of Umatilla, Ore.; along with seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Marvin of Dallas Center, Iowa and David of Russell, Iowa.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Maude Beakler, an older brother Harold of Tucson.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Nov.1, at 2 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel with burial following in Sunset Cemetery in Willcox. As a symbol of his love for antique cars, Roy was taken to the cemetery - his final ride -in the back of his beloved '26 Dodge,' that had given him much pleasure for many years.

Contributions may be made in Roy's name to the Charles Wm Leighton, Jr. Hospice, 319 W. Grant, Suite A, Willcox, Ariz., 85643. Services under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox."
