The son John Burkholder. He was a C.S.A. soldier and a telegraph operator at Harrisonburg till the close of the War. In 1865 he married Ella Moore. In 1867 he graduated from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. Ella died in 1897 and he married Cornelia Switzer in 1899. He was a frequent contributor to the Rockingham Register and the Central Presbyterian. In 1899 and 1900, he wrote a series of articles for the Richmond Dispatch, on episodes of the War.
