Mrs. Ella N. Burnside, aged 92, of Maryland, RD 1, died Thursday, January 18, in Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, following a brief illness. Mrs. Burnside was born April 4, 1876, on South Hill in the Town of Maryland, the daughter of Charles and Adelia (Sickler) Newcomb. She was married to James Killday in 1894, at Maryland. Mr. Killday died in 1904 and in 1908, she was married to Horace Burnside. He died in 1920. A housewife, Mrs. Burnside was a life-long resident of the South Hill area, where her ancestors, the Newcomb family, were the pioneer family that home-steaded a portion of South Hill. They formerly owned a tract that included part of Crumhorn Mountain and part of South Hill that extended to Cooperstown Junction. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Eva Howe of Binghamton, Mrs. Earl Hughes of Conesville, Mrs. Lucy Ireland of Maryland, RD 1, and Mrs. Hazel Meyer of Oneonta ...
