Palardy heeded the call of his new country, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in September, 1942. He was assigned to Able Company, 24th Marines.
Palardy fought on Namur and Saipan, where he was wounded in the arm by shell fragments during a debacle on June 22, when the company was separated from the rest of the battalion. He was evacuated and transferred to a hospital, where he spent the next several weeks.
Palardy was returned to his company with the rank of Corporal before Iwo Jima. He was killed in the Meat Grinder on Iwo Jima, March 2, 1945. He was buried in grave 1377 Row 28 Plot 1, 4 MarDiv Cem. on 3/11/1945.
After the war, Laurent was reinterred in St. Peter's Cemetery, Lewiston.
