James Lee Finney, age 85, of Decherd, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma.

Born January 9, 1923, the son of the late Jesse Lee Finney and Cora Shasteen Finney. Mr. Finney served in the Marines during World War II, was a member of the Estill Springs Masonic Lodge, served as a past Commander of the VFW, and worked for many years as a security guard.

Mr. Finney was a charter member of Headlands Baptist Church in Mentor, Ohio, Temple Lodge #28 F&AM in Painesville, Ohio, Estill Springs Masonic Lodge, Past Monarch and Charter Member of Caliph Grotto in Mentor, Ohio.

Mr. Finney's career started with the Mentor Headlands Fire Department where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant. He was instrumental in starting the Ambulance Rescue Service there. During this time he was also a member of the Grand River Police Department and a Ranger with the State Park in Ohio. From there he was the Founding Chief of Capital Hill Fire Department in Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Finney, his two daughters, Ann Marie Liptak and Linda Lee Kallay, both of Mentor, OH, his son, Patrick Finney of Chardon, OH, his brother, Billy (Barbara) Finney of Decherd, ten grand children and ten great grand children.

He is preceded in death by his son, James Lee Finney, Jr. and his sister, Barbara Rondine.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 9:00 PM, Friday, December 19th at the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Services, officiated by Bro. Carl Roberts, are scheduled for 11:00 am, Saturday, December 20th in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with internment to follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
