Roy A. Rodgers, 89, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007.
Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Chapel. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum.

Roy A. Rodgers was born May 18, 1918, in Merkel, Texas. Roy and Mildred were married June 20, 1937. He graduated from Stripling High School in Fort Worth. Roy served in the United States Naval Reserve during World War II and was honorably discharged in September 1945. For two years he was stationed in the South Pacific, attached to the 4th Medical Battalion, 4th Marine Division. Prior to and after the war he worked for the Westinghouse Corp. and, later, at Fakes Furniture Co. before starting his own carpet business, Roy Rodgers Carpet. Later he opened Roy Rodgers Furniture Co. in Fort Worth. During his retirement Roy pioneered a volunteer program that provided baked goods to many local charities, including the All Church Home and various homeless shelters. In his later years, he also enjoyed delivering cars for the Tandy Corp. all over the United States. Roy was a faithful member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mildred Leath Rodgers.
