Jonah Collins King was married to Martha E. Brown, first. They had one child, Martha Lenora King. Martha Brown King died in September 1879 when Lenora was only a few months old. Jonah married Elizabeth Jane Cox in June 1880 and she raised Lenora as her own child.

He was the son of Joseph M. and Eliza Edge King of Horry Co., SC. Joseph M. King was a US Civil War soldier.
