Born Nov. 17, 1936, in East Prairie, son of the late Floyd F. and Annie M. Powers McLain, he lived in East Prairie most of his life. He was a department foreman for Watlow Electric in St. Louis and had lived in Overland before returning to East Prairie in 1988. A U.S. Army veteran and member of Overland Occidental Masonic Lodge 623 AF&AM, he attended the First Church of God in East Prairie.
On Dec. 18, 1988, he married Frances E. Givens who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Alice McLain; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Chuck Haley; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Carl and Mary McLain and James McLain; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Rose Ann and C.J. Moore, Patricia and Ed Delfin and Janet Salazar; and three grandchildren, Darren O'Brien, Jeremy McLain and Sarah McLain Sherrod.
He was preceded in death by one son, Paul D. McLain Jr.
Visitation was at Shelby Funeral Home, where Charleston Masonic Lodge 407 AF&AM will conduct rites at 7 p.m.
Services are scheduled at the funeral home with Larry Smith and Bob Kespelher officiating.
Burial followed in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
