Born at Rolesville in Wake County on April 12, 1900, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Thompson and Corinna Nowell Arnold.
Mayme and her late brother, Edgar T. "Rooster" Arnold, were in the grocery business on Main Street of Wendell for 40 years. She closed the business and retired approximately 7 years ago. After her brother's death approxcimately 16 years ago, she made her home here in Wendell with her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Millard Jeffreys.
Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Wendell Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with her pastor, Dr. Baxter Prevatte, and the Rev. Tom Johnson of Clyde Chapel Baptist Church officiating.
Music was two solos "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer" by the Rev. Tom Johnson with Mrs. Margaret Britt at the organ.
Pallbearers were nephews Ralph Pearce of Rolesville and Wyatt Painter of Wendell; great nephews Lynn Pearce of Rolesville, Hewitt Jones of Wake Cross Roads, Douglas Vaughan, Ross Carroll and Charles House, all of Wendell.
Burial was at Greenmount Cemetery in Wendell.
Survivors are: Nieces, Mrs. Fannie Mae Jeffreys, Mrs. Barbara Carroll and Mrs. Catherine Vaughan of Wendell, Mrs. Virginia Pearce of Rolesville, Mrs. Doris Driver of Zebulon and Mrs. Faye Martin of Raleigh, nephews Charles Painter of Seaboard, Thompson Painter of Knightdale and Wyatt Painter of Wendell.
