Elias R. Austin, 80, died Monday afternoon at his home in Palo after a lingering illness.
He as born July 16, 1867, in De Witt and before coming to Palo 37 years ago had lived in Diamondale, De Witt and Lansing.
He was a member of the Palo Methodist church and a painter by occupation. He never married.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Cordelia Bingham and a nehphew, Melvin Bingman, also of Palo.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Palo Methodist church with the Rev. Parker Newcombe of Hubbardston officiating. Interment will be in the Palo cemetery.
