Obituary. Frank W. Stanley Dies in Hospital.
In ill health for a lengthy period, Frank W. Stanley, a retired fisherman, of North Head, Grand Manan, died Wednesday morning in Lancaster DVA Hospital. He was 72 years of age. Born in North Head, the son of the late Calvin and Etta (Thurber) Stanley, he had been a lifelong resident of that community.
A well-known fisherman, he was engaged in that occupation throughout his life and retired in 1930, He was a veteran of the First World War and served overseas from 1914 to 1917 with the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles. He was invalided home in 1917.
Mr. Stanley was a member of the United Baptist Church, Grand Manan, as well as of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. His wife, the former Lila Stead, of Manchester, England, died previously.
Surviving are three sons: Edwin G. Stanley, Saint John; Frank D, Stanley, Brighton, Sussex, England; and Philip R. Stanley of Springfield, Mass.; one daughter, Mrs. Lorenzo Smith, South Weymouth, Mass.
Surviving also is one stepson: Eric Lucas, North Head, Grand Manan; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Roland Phenix, Saint John; two brothers, Norman Stanley, Castalia, Grand Manan; Percy Stanley, Portland, Me.; nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.
The body will be taken to North Head, Grand Manan on Thursday to rest at the residence of his stepson, Eric Lucas, from where the funeral will be held on Saturday with service at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Church of England Cemetery, North Head.
