His father died on December 18, 1882 and his mother remarried on May 8, 1888 to Charles Henry Bryant. Through that union, William had two half-sisters, Kit (Bryant) Cravens and Sallie (Bryant) Sullivan.

Burial will in the Freedom Cemetery, Adair County, with the following pallbearers: Curtis Sullivan, Rufus Sullivan, Omar Rooks, Edgar Rooks, Joe Conover, and James O. Burton.
