He was the only child of Louis Green Roy and Rachel (Collins) Roy Bryant.

His father died on December 18, 1882 and his mother remarried on May 8, 1888 to Charles Henry Bryant. Through that union, William had two half-sisters, Kit (Bryant) Cravens and Sallie (Bryant) Sullivan.


His obituary from the Russell County News [date unknown]:

William A. Roy, a resident of the Freedom section of Adair County, near the Russell-Adair line, died at his home home Tuesday, January 13, after a long illness. He was 87 years of age.

A son of Green and Rachel Collins Roy, he was married to Martha Gosser, who survives. Two children were born of this union, both of whom preceded him to the grave. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one granddaughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Burton, and by two half-sisters, Mrs. Kit Cravens and Mrs. Sallie Sullivan, both of Indianapolis.

Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) morning at 10 o'clock in the chapel of Rippetoe Funeral Home and will be conducted by Bro. Henry Popplewell. The music will be by Mrs. Ted Grahl and Mrs. Arlo Stephens. Burial will in the Freedom Cemetery, Adair County, with the following pallbearers: Curtis Sullivan, Rufus Sullivan, Omar Rooks, Edgar Rooks, Joe Conover, and James O. Burton.

Rippetoe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
