CAPPELMANN, JR., E. TRYON, N.C. - Ernest Henry Cappelmann, Jr., 84, of Melrose Ave., Tryon, N.C., died Monday, April 5, 2004, in St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, N.C. Born in Charleston, S.C., he was the son of the late Ernest Henry and Ruth Bolivar Cappelmann, Sr. He was a 1948 graduate of Clemson University. Mr. Cappelmann was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps where he was in the 35th Troop Carrier Squadron and flew C-47's. He was active with Habitat for Humanity, and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Tryon, N.C. Mr. Cappelmann was the husband of Dorothy E. Cappelmann who died in 2003. Surviving is one daughter, Julie Crum of New Bern, N.C. Three sons, Ernest Henry Cappelmann, III, of Rutherfordton, N.C., John Charles Cappelmann of Oxford, MD, and James Mark Cappelmann of Sumter, S.C. Also 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Buehannan. Graveside services for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2004, in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, N.C., with Rev. Dr. Michael Doty officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 9, 2004, in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, N.C. Memorials may be made to Landrum Library, 111 E. Ashbury Dr., Landrum, S.C. 29356, or to Habitat for Humanity, 132 N. Trade Ave., Landrum, S.C. 29356. MCFARLAND FUNERAL CHAPEL, TRYON, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.
