At the age of 8 years Pierce Wall emigrated to the United States and with his parents, two brothers and two sisters, settled on a farm in Cedar county, Iowa, where he resided continuously for over 50 years.
In February, 1866, he was united in marriage with Sarah Lonergan, which union God blessed with eleven children: Sister M. Angeline, Peoria, Ill; Thomas F., of Morse; Mary A. Donovan, now deceased; Mrs. E. D. Russell, Fort Dodge; Mrs. Wm. Eckrich, Cosgrove; Mrs. Margaret Donovan, Iowa City; Frank T., Gettysburg, S.D.; Pierce J., Solon Iowa; John A., Morse, Edward B., Iowa City and Mrs. C.W.Droll, Chariton, Iowa.
His young life in the pioneer days was spent blazing the trail with indomitable courage for the future generation. Hardships-and there were many-were met bravely and with a patience that almost surpassed human understanding. His life was characterized by his quiet, unassuming solicitude for others, always intent for the welfare of his family, his home and the community in which he lived.
Mr. Wall's declining years were serene and beautiful. God granted to him those virtues of faith, gentleness, love for his fellow men and charity toward all. His life has not been lived in vain. He left a heritage of a noble life well spent and he died as he had lived-a good father, a good neighbor, a good citizen and a good Catholic.

Requiem High Mass was celebrated at Saint Patrick's church, Iowa City, and interment was made in St. Bridget's cemetery, Nolan Settlement.
