Services Today For Mrs. Soule
Funeral services will be conducted today (Saturday) for Mrs. Helen M. Soule, 86, 127 1/2 West Third Street, Tama, at 11am from the Chapel of the Mason-Hand Funeral Home. The Rev. Harland T. Gant, pastor of the Tama United Methodist Church, will officiate. Mrs. Glen Berrey, organist, will include the selections, "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "The Lord's Prayer."
Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Tama, with the following as casket bearers: Dennis Shirk, Shawn Soule, Kevin Soule, Stanley Niedermann, David Ladehoff and Douglas Hammond.
Mrs. Soule died at the Marshalltown Community Hospital at 6:50pm, Wed., Feb. 14, 1979. She had been a patient there for six days and had been in ill health for the past two weeks.
She was born Oct. 17, 1893 at Waterloo, the daughter of Charles A. and Katherine Gallagher Howard. She received her schooling in various areas in northern Iowa until settling in Dubuque where she grew to womanhood. March 12, 1910 at Dubuque she was married to Leo V. Heller. Mr. Heller died in 1918 suffering from the influenza. She was married in 1920 to the Rev. Deane O. Soule of Dubuque and the couple lived in various communities including Toledo where the Rev. travelled the church circuit. He died in 1976 {sic 1971}. For the past 33 years she lived in Tama. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and a grandson.
Six children survive: Mrs. Janet Spooner, Tama; Mrs. Delbert (Betty) Shirk, Garwin; Ronald Heller, Burlington; Robert Soule, Madison, Wis.; Paul Soule, Burlington; Dean Soule, Decorah; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Note: Leo and Helen were very much in love for years and Helen was heartbroken at his early death.
