Eva Gauthier was born on January 21, 1920 at Plummer, MN daughter of the late Emil and Louisa (Desautel) Gauthier. She attended rural Carpenter School near Plummer, MN, grades 1-6 and then Oklee, MN, grades 7 and 8.

Eva was active in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee. She was on the Altar Guild, counting offerings and on the Funeral Service Committee for many years. She was also a member of the Oklee American Legion Auxiliary for 25 years.

On July 5, 1937 Eva was united in marriage to Eugene Paul Asselin at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Plummer, MN. The couple farmed in this area including Plummer, Oklee and Fosston. In 1971 they moved to Anchorage Alaska where Eva worked at a school for 4 years at the hot lunch program and assisted at play time.

Eva's main interest for many years was quilting and gardening. She made quilts for all of her children and grand children. She and Gene would put in a large garden and do a lot of canning; only to give most of it away. Upon Gene's death in 2001, she lived on the farm for a year, then sold the farm and moved into the senior housing in Oklee, where she lived for 2 years. While visiting in Arizona one winter, she had a stroke and was not able to live alone. She moved to Poplar Meadows in McIntosh, MN, where she has lived for the last 4 years, and lived the last 2 months at Riverview Care Center in Crookston, MN

She is survived by nine children: Lois (Clinton) Hanson of Fargo, ND; Judy (Glen) Aaknes of S. Milwaukee, WI; Ken (Sally) Asselin of St. Francis, WI; Therese (Don) Linnertz of East Grand Forks, MN; Clifford (Joyce) Asselin of Grand Canyon, AZ; Don Asselin of Quartize, AZ; Elizabeth (Gene) Alderson of Walker, MN; Val Asselin, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and Roger (Karen) Asselin of Brooks, MN. 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.; sisters Doris Gagner and Angeline Trandby both of Grand Rapids, MN and Celina Carriere of Lahabra, CA; sisters in law Lucy Gauthier of New London, MN and Gertie Gauthier of Duluth, MN and many nieces and nephews.
