He was born June 20, 1916, at Hutchinson, the son of Frank Earl and Sarah Elizabeth Roof Barnes. He retired from the Hutchinson Fire Department in 1966 with 23 and a half years of service. He then worked for Cessna from 1966 and retired in 1981. He was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, since 1946, member of the Hutchinson Retired Police and Firefighters Association. He served in the US Navy during World War II. On July, 4, 1937, he married Mabel D. Mackey in Hutchinson. She died Sept. 11, 2007.
Survivors include: daughter, Nancy J. Barnes of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son, Dr. Cary M. Barnes, three brothers, and one sister.
Fireman's graveside services will be conducted by Hutchinson Fire Department Honor Guard will be held at 2 pm Monday, with Pastor Robert L. Albin presiding. Friends may call today, Thursday and Friday at Elliott's Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson. Memorials may be sent to Hutchinson Public Library or the Hutchinson Retired Police and Firefighters Association.
