On Thursday, September 29, 2005 Clyde Donald Budd, Sr. of rural El Dorado Springs departed this mortal life. He leaves behind his wife of sixty-three years, Elaine, and three sons and two daughters-in-law; Donnie and wife Susan, Dennis and wife Sandy, and Richard. Born June 4, 1921, Donald was preceded in death by his sister, Sibyl Budd Ewing, by his parents, Cora and Rollie Budd, and by a dear granddaughter, Rachael Budd. Family was always the focal point of Donald's many years with Elaine, and they were thrilled when grandchildren began coming along: Shane, Uri, Toyne, Corey, Annie, Rachael, Ryan, Rebekah, Lyndee, Joseph, Hayley, and Caitlyn. Miss Emily Cole became a member of the family when her mother Susan wed Donnie in 2004. Donald and Elaine were further blessed with several great grandchildren: Rebeckah, Brittany, Rachael, Ashley, Austin, Olivia, and Jaden.
Donald grew up on his parents' farm in Cedar County. During his school years he formed close and life-long friendships with two special young men, Clete Hopkins and John Gordon, who join the family in mourning Donald's death. Donald was a 1939 graduate of El Dorado Springs High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in November, 1940, and was honorably discharged after the war in November, 1945. He and Elaine were married August 19, 1942 in El Dorado Springs, and made their home in several stateside duty locations during the war years. After the war, Donald and Elaine came back to Cedar County and established their home about a mile from Rollie and Cora's farm. There the young couple put down deep roots, steadily built up their farm, raised their sons, and marked the passing of the seasons for nearly sixty years. Over time, the farm became a favorite gathering place for children, grandchildren and all manner of friends, cousins and in-laws and remains so to this day.
Donald Budd will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends.
