WORLD WAR II
James Dean Elrod, age 85, of Crestview, Fla., and formerly of Odessa, Texas, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008.
He was born on Feb. 22, 1923, in Bristow, Okla., to Acel and Essie Mae Elrod. Mr. Elrod moved to Crestview from Odessa, where he lived for 48 years and was employed by and retired from Phillips 66 Petroleum Co.
Mr. Elrod was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II and went on the first Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to see the World War II monument.
Mr. Elrod is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Juanita Elrod; three daughters, Deana Haire (Wayne) of Shalimar, Fla., Rita Neal of Crestview, and Janie Trowbridge of San Angelo, Texas; grandchildren, Ronnie Neal (Kim), Brett Haire, Jason Trowbridge (Lisa), Lance Trowbridge (Michelle), Natalie Neal (Tara Claussen) and Tara Trowbridge; great-grandchildren, Joey, Destin, Nick, Emma and Kennsie; two brothers, Junior Elrod of Ponca City, Okla., and Tommy Elrod of Guymon, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews; and an abundance of friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec 18, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home with Dr. James Nash, First Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at 2 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gideon's, First Church of the Nazarene, or your favorite charity.
