Young, age 27/36, a farmer, born in South Carolina enlisted with the 8th Missouri Volunteer Cavalry USA, on July 20/25, 1862 in Marshfield, Missouri as a Pvt. in Company "B". September 1862 Company "B", Absent On Detached Service. September 20, 1862 Transferred from Company "B" to Company "G" at Springfield, Missouri. October 1, 1862 Transferred from Compang "G" to Company "B" and On Duty Guarding Headquarters. January 29, 1863 Absent Without Leave and Noted as Deserter from Camp Forsyth, Missouri. February 25, 1863 Listed as Deserter and Arrested March 3/30, 1864. {Descriptive List of Deserters says: Arrested March 30, 1864 Wright County, Missouri and in Remarks: 'Says he left Regiment with written leave from his Captain to go home and stay until further ordered to his Regiment since he left.'} April 26, 1864 Rejoined Regiment at DeVall's Bluff, Arkansas. January and February 1865 Stoppage of all Pay and Allowances from January 29, 1863 to April 26, 1864 by Sentence of General Court Martial. May 31, 1865 Admitted to General Hospital, Little Rock, Arkansas. {Hospital Muster Roll Card # 151149 gives Age: 38; Born in South Carolina; Married; Resides in Webster County, Missouri and Treated for rheumatism.} June 16, 1865 Honorably Discharged and Mustered Out at Little Rock, Arkansas General Hospital per Telegram from War Department dated May 3, 1865. * Filed for Pension on April 20, 1871. * April 17, 1884 Notation # 3558.A.1884 War Department: "Charge of Desertion REMOVED.
