A delegate to 3 international peace conferences, in 1907, 1908, and 1911.

One of the five members appointed to the new Federal Reserve Board by President Woodrow Wilson on its creation in 1914. Appointed as the first Governor. He retired in 1936, but remained as "special counsel".

On June 4, 1898 he married Huybertie Lansing Pruyn.
