DOWNS, Virginia Elizabeth (Mitchell) Age 98 of Friendship Village, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 25, 2008. She was born November 7, 1910 to Riley and Anna Catherine (Kirchner) Mitchell. Virginia had been a member of the Northmont Community Church for more than 60 years, where she was a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. She had also volunteered for years at Kettering Hospital. As with many of her generation, a predominant lifelong characteristic was "Faithfulness," as demonstrated by a strong devotion to her Lord Jesus Christ; her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert R. Downs; her family; and her church. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: David and Dianna Downs of Lancaster, Tom and Bev Downs of Tipp City, son-in-law: Ray Brock of Dayton, grandchildren: David, Christine, Lisa, 5 great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughters: Virginia Brock, Phyllis Otto, parents, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood) with Chaplain Dave Snowdon officiating. Interment will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton. The family will receive friends on Monday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Beulah Beach Camps (6101 W. Lake Rd., Vermilion, Ohio 44089), envelopes will be provided.
