Muriel Norma Coralie Carlson, 78, died Sunday, February 16, 2003 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Trail, MN, with Reverend Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Trail, MN.

Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday, February 18, 2003, at Johnson Funeral Home, Oklee, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Muriel Norma Coralie Tommervik was born April 16, 1924 at Bear Park Township, Norman County, MN, where she was raised by her grandparents, Halvor and Ella Tommervik. She was baptized and confirmed at Sundahl Lutheran Church, southeast of Fertile, MN. She grew up and attended school in Gary, MN and graduated High School there in 1943.

On October 22, 1944, Norma was united in marriage to Dale Carlson at the parsonage in Fertile. The couple lived at Sundahl, MN for 8 years. Dale was transferred to the creamery at Trail in 1952 and they raised their family, consisting of children, Dwight, Harvey, Emily and Melissa in Trail. Norma was home raising their family until Dale died in 1971. She then went to work at Good Samaritan Center, Clearbrook, MN from 1973-1985 when she retired. Up until 1988, Norma lived with her son Harvey at Trail and moved into Skylite Apartments, Thief River Falls, MN for a year. From 1989 until 2000, she lived with daughter, Melissa in Thief River Falls, then spent a short time at Oakland Park Nursing Home before entering the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, where she has since resided.

Norma was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Trail, MN, where she served as church organist for many years and also held all of the church offices. Norma played at several of the parish churches over the years, at times playing for 2 or 3 Sunday services. She also played at many funerals and weddings. She held membership in the VFW Auxiliary in Trail, where she held all offices and also was a member of the Trail Community Club. Norma also taught piano to children for over 40 years.

Survived by children, Harvey Carlson, Trail, MN and Melissa Carlson, Thief River Falls, MN; a grandson, Shawn Carlson, Oklee, MN; half-sister, Diane (Ted) Wright, Portland, OR; half-brother, Michael (Ione) Hanson, Milwaukee, OR; step-sister, Delores Staurt, Boise, ID; sister-in-law, Muriel (Sidney) Aaneson, Bejou, MN; sister-in-law, Mary Hanson, Prior Lake, MN and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by husband, Dale in 1971; daughter, Emily in 1962; son, Dwight in 1998; step-sister, Esther Spaits and step-brothers, Sidney and Dennis Hanson.
