Royal was at first a merchant in Alburgh, Vermont, but after 1797 he was a farmer in Craftsbury, VT. He married Lucretia Matilda Crafts on July 2, 1797. They had 4 children: Royal Crafts (who only lived 2 1/2 years), Pliny Moore (named after his sister Martha's husband, and Martha named one of her children after Royal), William Crafts, Laura Matilda and Charles Chandler, who died at 6 months old and probably buried with his parents.
Royal was for many years a justice of the peace, a member of the State legislature for several years successively and judge of probate for the county of Orleans, VT.
His wife predeceased him by less than 2 years. He died while visiting his son in Troy, NY, of paralysis.
He was a member of the Congregational Church.
