ELIZABETH STONEBURNER MILLER (Her first name was never used) . Elizabeth was the only child who lived beyond childhood of Arthur Elmer Stoneburner (son of David Filmore Stoneburner and Annie Elizabeth Fadely Stoneburner of Readus,VA) & Cora Agnes Sine Stoneburner (daughter of Nelson Sine and Mary Elizabeth Lear Sine of Columbia Furnace,VA). Her family made their home at Readus, Shenandoah County,VA . She attended Lantz Mill grade school and when it came time for high school the family had to pay tuition since high school was not free in those days. With no bus service available, she rode to high school with Ches Lambert who was one of only a few young people who owned their own car in those days. She recalled many times that Ches would get such a chuckle seeing her riding in his rumble seat with the rain pouring down. She was a member of Edinburg High School Class of 1932. The school then stood on a hill at the outskirts of Edinburg toward Woodstock. In addition to her parents, her family included:
1) May Irene Stoneburner b. Nov 1909 d. 26 (28) Aug 1916 buried at Columbia Furnace Union Church Cemetery(Old Section)
and Twins:
2) Olive Elizabeth Stoneburner b. 29 May 1914 d. 16 Mar 1996 (this memorial)
3) Oliver Stoneburner b. 29 May 1914 d. 30 May 1914 (burial at Union Forge Cemetery)

She met and fell in love with Loyal E. Miller, the son of John William Miller & Sara Eunice Wotring Miller of Maurertown, VA. He is said to have walked the six miles each way to court her since he did not own his own vehicle. Her parents were not in favor of Elizabeth marrying anyone, but when Loyal and Elizabeth decided to marry at 21 years old, they chose to elope and were married on Columbus Day October 12, 1935 at the parsonage of the Lutheran Minister in New Market, VA. Although her parents were not happy that she married, they welcomed Elizabeth and Loyal into their home at Readus and they lived there until after their first two children were born. Sometime after 1938, they moved into their own place at Calvary, west of Woodstock, VA, in Shenandoah County.

Their daughter, Nancy Lee Miller was b. 10 Sep 1936 d. 11 Sep 1936 is buried under the shade of a huge old oak tree in the pastoral setting of the Union Forge Cemetery, just west of Edinburg, VA .

Elizabeth spent most of her adult life in Front Royal, VA. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother and friend as well as a gifted musician who prior to her marriage sang and played piano with a quartet that traveled from church to church in Shenandoah County. She continued playing the piano in her home for family and friends as they gathered on various occasions for sing-a-longs. Baking was her specialty since she began baking pies and homemade bread as a youngster to help feed their fieldhands. She spent a great deal of time baking during her teen years to help supplement the family income as her parents huckstered her baked goods to the Middleburg area during the depression. This talent, one of many which she willingly shared with her family and friends, will always be cherished.

She always was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed that role, but at some point she found herself supplementing her growing family's income by taking various jobs. When her husband died unexpectantly in 1970 and she had no insurance, she worked at Belle Boyd Restaurant for at least the next 10 years. Additionally, some four months after Loyal's death, her fourth grandchild , Christopher was born and her daughter and Chris lived with her while her son-in-law was serving in the Army in Korea. This turned out to be an unexpected blessing which helped Elizabeth get through the shock of Loyal's death.

In her senior years, she developed Parkinson's Disease but she was able to live in her own home for many years through the wonderful loving assistance of a fantastic caregiver, Josephine Aylor. When Josephine herself became ill and subsequently died from cancer, finding a replacement to equal Josephine was next to impossible. The family was able to manage for several years with occasional help, but in June 1995, when Elizabeth's disease progressed where she could no longer be cared for at home, she moved to Clearview Manor at Bentonville, VA for a short while prior to her death. Clearview Manor was a small senior care facility located just 10 miles south of Front Royal at Bentonville, Warren County, Virginia. This facility was able to provide around the clock care that she required. Elizabeth passed away just 6 months later on March 16, 1996 at Clearview Manor, Bentonville, Warren County, VA.

She and her husband are buried next to their daughter, Nancy Lee who is next to her parents, Arthur and Cora Agnes Stoneburner, in the beautiful pastoral setting of the Union Forge Church Cemetery, in Shenandoah County just outside of Edinburg, Virginia which is just a short distance from where she was born and raised.
